Quick answer: Tell us when the air stops being cold: at idle in traffic, on the move, after an hour, or all the time. That one detail usually separates an airflow or fan problem from a leak or a compressor before the car arrives. The work is done in Mussafah Industrial, at an independent workshop that takes only the Y62.
What we can tell before you drive
AC faults describe themselves better than most. The pattern of when it goes warm is the most useful thing you can send, more useful than how warm it feels.
What helps us place it from a message:
- When it goes warm: only at idle, only on the move, after a long drive, or from the moment it starts
- Whether both sides of the cabin are the same, or one side is colder than the other
- Any noise when the AC is switched on, such as a squeal, a rattle or a grind
- Any smell from the vents
- When the system was last regassed, and whether it stayed cold for weeks or only days afterwards
That usually gets us to the likely cause. It does not replace measuring the system, and we will not quote a compressor from a message, but it does tell you whether this is likely to be quick or a longer job.
What the trip actually costs you
Mussafah is local for most of Abu Dhabi, so the question is less the drive and more whether to keep using the system on the way. For a car that is simply not cold enough, it is fine to drive over.
The exception is noise. A compressor that grinds or squeals when the AC engages is breaking up inside, and running it can carry debris through the whole system. If yours sounds like that, switch the AC off and drive over with the windows down.
What we would need the car for, and for how long
Roughly how long the car is with us, by what the AC turns out to need:
- Same visitRefrigerant recovered and weighed, the system held under vacuum, a leak test, and a recharge by weight once it is sealed. A sand-blocked condenser stack or a fan that is not running at idle is usually found in the same visit.
- Same day or nextA leaking fitting, a seal or a fan, where the part is one we hold or can get quickly.
- LongerA compressor or condenser that has to come out, or a system contaminated by a failing compressor that needs flushing before new parts go in.
- Switch it offA grinding or squealing noise when the AC engages. Tell us before you keep using it.
Booking it from Abu Dhabi
Message the workshop with the model year and when the air stops being cold. We will tell you what we would check first and give you a slot at Mussafah.
If the car also runs warm on the temperature gauge in traffic, say so: a sand-blocked condenser stack can affect the engine cooling as well, and that changes what we look at first.

Frequently asked questions
My AC is cold on the highway but warm in Abu Dhabi traffic. Why?
That pattern points at airflow across the condenser rather than the refrigerant. At speed, the air passing through the stack carries the heat away; at idle the fan has to do it, so a blocked condenser or a weak fan shows up only in traffic.
Can you just regas it?
We can, but a system that was low is low for a reason. We find the leak first, so you are not back in a few weeks with the same complaint.
Are you the Nissan dealer?
No. Top Challenger is an independent workshop that works only on the Nissan Patrol Y62, in Mussafah Industrial and in Ras Al Khor, Dubai.
Is the AC work done in Mussafah?
Yes. Both workshops do the same work on the Y62, and the car is not moved to Dubai for it.
