engine rebuild, Dubai
Last updated: 23 August 2026
Quick answer: Heads off, block out, everything measured before anything is ordered. We do timing chain and guide work, valve stem seals, head gasket and full bottom-end rebuilds on the 5.6 V8, and we show you the worn parts next to the new ones. What the job turns out to be depends on what the measurements say, not on the symptom you arrived with. Describe the noise and when it happens, and we will tell you how deep this usually goes.
What the job involves
An engine rebuild is decided by measurement, not by assumption. The VK56VD comes apart far enough to see what is actually worn, and the scope is set from what the gauges say. That is why we do not quote a rebuild from a description over the phone.
Timing chain and guide work is the job we open most. The chain stretches gradually and the guides wear, and the first sign is usually a rattle on cold start that fades once oil pressure builds. Caught at the rattle stage it is a contained job. Left long enough for the chain to skip, it is not.
Head work covers valve stem seals, head gasket and the cylinder heads themselves. Where a head gasket is suspected we run a combustion gas test on the cooling system first, because that rules it in or out before anything comes apart. Heads come off and go on the bench so seats and surfaces can be checked properly rather than eyeballed in the car.
A full bottom-end rebuild means the block comes out. Bearings, seals and any worn hard parts are replaced, everything is measured on assembly, and the engine goes back in built to specification. We keep the old parts and show you what came off.
What we check first
Before the engine is opened, we work through the cheap checks that can change the answer:
- Oil condition and level, and whether the car has been consuming oil between services
- Cold start behaviour, because a rattle that fades is a different problem to one that persists
- Compression and the pattern across cylinders, not just the lowest number
- Live fuel trims per bank, which show an intake or injector problem before a mechanical one
- Cooling system condition, since overheating history changes what we expect to find on the heads
- Coolant and oil for signs of one finding its way into the other
How bad is it? A symptom ladder
Engine noises and smells worry owners more than anything else. This is how we grade them:
- Watch itA faint tick that is only there for the first seconds of a cold start and never returns once warm, with clean oil at the correct level.
- Book it inA cold start rattle that lasts several seconds, oil consumption that has increased, or a new light misfire under load.
- Book it in soonA persistent rattle once warm, a misfire that has become consistent, oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, or steam from the exhaust that does not clear.
- Stop drivingA deep knock that rises with engine speed, sudden loss of oil pressure, or heavy smoke. Continuing to drive turns a rebuildable engine into a replacement.
Booking it in
Send the model year, the mileage, and a description of the noise or symptom, including whether it happens cold, warm or under load. A short video with the engine running tells us more than a paragraph. We will tell you what we would measure first.

Frequently asked questions
Is a rattle on cold start always the timing chain?
Not always, but it is the first thing we check on a VK56VD. A brief tick that disappears as oil pressure builds can be normal on a higher-mileage engine. A rattle that lasts several seconds, or one that is getting longer over time, needs looking at before the chain skips.
Do you rebuild the engine or fit a replacement?
We rebuild. The engine is stripped far enough to measure what is worn, then rebuilt with the parts the measurements call for. A replacement unit brings its own unknown history, so we only discuss that when the damage genuinely rules a rebuild out.
How long does an engine rebuild take?
It depends on what the strip-down finds and on parts availability. A timing chain and guide job is contained. A full bottom-end rebuild means the engine comes out, so the car stays with us. We give you a time once the engine is open, not before.
Will you show me the old parts?
Yes. We keep what comes off and go through it with you next to the new parts. If a component was replaced, you see why.
