Nissan Patrol Y62
AC repair, Dubai
Last updated: 23 August 2026
Quick answer: Recover, vacuum, leak test, recharge by weight. A Y62 that cools on the move but not at idle is usually a condenser airflow or fan problem, not a compressor, and we would rather find that than sell you a compressor. Tell us when it stops being cold — at idle, on the move, or both — and we can usually place it from that alone.
What the job involves
An AC job starts with measurement, not with gas. Topping up a system that is leaking hides the fault for a few weeks and puts the same refrigerant back into the atmosphere, so we find the leak first.
The refrigerant is recovered and weighed, which immediately tells us whether the system was low and by how much. Then the system is put under vacuum and held, which shows whether it is sealed. A system that will not hold vacuum has a leak to find before anything is recharged.
Leak testing covers the condenser, the lines and fittings, and the compressor shaft seal. In this climate the condenser sits behind a stack that fills with fine sand, and coastal humidity corrodes fittings from the outside in, so the leak is often somewhere the driver would never look. A stack blocked badly enough to starve the condenser usually shows up as an engine that runs warm in traffic as well.
Recharging is done by weight to the correct specification, not by pressure gauge alone. Then the system is tested at idle and with the car moving, because those are two different loads and a fault can show in one and not the other.
What we check first
What we look at, in the order that separates the cheap faults from the expensive ones:
- Refrigerant weight on recovery, which shows whether the system has been losing gas
- Whether the system holds vacuum, before any refrigerant goes back in
- Condenser and radiator stack for sand blockage, since airflow is the most common cause here
- Cooling fan operation at idle, which is what separates cools-on-the-move from cools-everywhere
- Compressor engagement and clutch behaviour, and the shaft seal for signs of a slow leak
- Cabin filter and blower, because weak airflow at the vents is not always a refrigerant problem
How bad is it? A symptom ladder
Almost every AC complaint in a UAE summer arrives as not cold enough. This is how we separate them:
- Watch itSlightly less cold than last summer, cooling well on the move, with a cabin filter that has not been changed in a while.
- Book it inCold on the move but warm at idle in traffic. That points at airflow across the condenser or the fan, not usually the compressor.
- Book it in soonCooling that has faded over weeks, which normally means a leak, or a noticeable smell when the system is switched on.
- Stop using the systemA grinding or squealing noise when the AC engages. Running a failing compressor can put debris through the whole system and turn one part into several.
Booking it in
Tell us the model year and when the air stops being cold. In traffic, on the motorway, only after an hour, or all the time. That single detail separates an airflow problem from a leak, and it changes what we check first.

Frequently asked questions
My AC is cold on the motorway but warm in traffic. What is that?
That pattern points at airflow across the condenser rather than the refrigerant. At speed there is enough air passing through the stack to shed heat. At idle the fan has to do that work, so a blocked condenser or a fan that is not running properly shows up only in traffic.
Can you just top up the gas?
We can, but if the system was low it is low for a reason. Adding refrigerant to a leaking system means you are back in a few weeks and the gas has gone into the atmosphere. We find the leak first and tell you what it is.
How often does the AC need attention in Dubai?
More often than the book assumes, mainly because of what the climate does to the condenser stack and the seals rather than because of the refrigerant itself. Fine sand blocks airflow and coastal humidity corrodes fittings, so we check both at every service.
Is a noisy compressor safe to keep using?
No. A compressor that grinds or squeals is breaking up internally, and running it circulates debris through the condenser and lines. Switch the system off and get it looked at before it becomes several parts instead of one.
